June 22: Would you like to be a block blogger for your neighborhood? A block blogger is someone who shares their energy-saving experiences with their neighbors on The Smallest User blog.
We want you to write from your point-of-view about how the contest and your energy-saving undertakings have affected your life. Don't have any experience blogging? Don't worry. Contact Ashley with your rough draft and she'll help you format it for the blogosphere!
What is the Smallest User?
The Smallest User is a competition between the Cooper-Young and Evergreen neighborhoods in Memphis to see which community can reduce its energy use most in 2010.
We are monitoring the energy use of residents in each neighborhood in the hopes of reducing our city's carbon footprint, helping residents save a few dollars, and showing people how gratifying it can be to go green!
Who is sponsoring the competition?
The competition is sponsored by a Strengthening Communities Grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, Memphis Light, Gas & Water (MLGW), the University of Memphis Journalism Department, the Cooper-Young Community Association (CYCA), and the Evergreen Historic District Association (EHDA).
How long will it last?
The competition began January 1 and will conclude December 31.
How are the measurements being taken?
MLGW is measuring the energy use of all residents on a monthly basis. We are comparing the usage from 2010 with the use from 2008 because MLGW implemented certain energy-saving programs in 2009 that might skew the results.
How do I find out if I live in one of these neighborhoods?
Click on the tabs at the top of this page to view a map of each neighborhood and find out if your usage is being counted.
